Artist Statement

Humor helps me survive the toughest challenges. After my diagnosis with lymphoma and then breast cancer, I began using discarded magazines, fabric scraps, and found objects, as well as new methods—cutting, pasting, and piecing together—as the best storytelling method for reassembling my symbolic body and my identity. My experiences and those of other survivors are often invisible and difficult to describe. I believe many of these experiences are universal. Expressing these small moments of pain and irony helps bring me out of isolation and into connection with others.
